Web5 feb 2014 · Symptoms: When you turn the key to the start position, the starter starts cranking, but the Jeep doesn't start, and when you let off the pressure that keeps it at the start position, it continues cranking and won't stop cranking until the key is turned off. Update: Like Ron said below, it stops cranking after 10 seconds (tip start). Short history: Web31 lug 2016 · Discussion Starter · #1 · Jul 21, 2016. 2002 4.0L, 32RH Auto, 90K miles. Recently the engine has been slow to start/turn over. Does not happen every time, but it is becoming more frequent. Most of the time it just require me to turn the key to run position momentarily. Some time I need to hold the key switch 1-2 seconds before it will turn over.

Web30 mag 2014 · Ryan Angela. Yes, it most certainly can. When you turn the key on, the fuel pump kicks on for 2-3 seconds to top off the pressure in the fuel system. Once they key turns to the start, the pump runs to maintain normal running pressure. When you shut down the engine, the system should maintain some of that line pressure. Sometimes when you turn the ignition key if it's really bad, you will feel a bit of roughness indicating the switch is breaking apart inside. I have left it cranking long enough for the battery dial to slip into the red and the little buzzer to go off.
