WebJul 15, 2015 · No it is not. The symbol C7 is referring to a C Dominant 7 chord. They are closely related though. Both chords contain the C Major triad containing the notes C-E-G. The Cmaj7 chord has what is called a Major 7 added to the triad. In the case of the C Major scale the natural 7th is B. So the CMaj7 chord is spelled C-E-G-B. WebDominant 7th chords use a flat 7 just like minor seventh chords, so we can find the 7th for these chords in the same way. However, when building the full chord, remember that minor seventh chords have a minor 7 and a minor third, whereas dominant 7th chords have a minor 7 and a major third.
